Following discussions with Doctors and Staff, the surgery has decided NOT to offer this service.

Withdrawal of Health Visitors from doctors' surgeries

We are concerned that Greater Glasgow & Clyde intend to remove Health Visitors out of doctors surgeries leading to the creation of large and less personal social & health care team making it harder for families to access.

Please ask at reception for a petition letter to forward to your MSP if you would like to support our concerns.

Recycling!

For information we participate in a shredding and recycling program and try to dispose of all paper waste using this method. This ensures any information with patient details are disposed of in a confidential manner as well as helping to try and save the environment.

Electronic Requests!

We are regularly asked if appointments, prescriptions or medical advice can be requested electronically. Unfortunately we regret for various reasons as well as patient confidentiality we are unable to offer this service. However perhaps sometime in the future when our I.T. is more compatible it will reviewed then. So please continue to phone in with these requests!

Live on nhs24.com is the Scottish Support Group Directory providing information on a wide range of health related local and national organisations. The Directory aims to put those in need in touch with support groups in their local area, these groups can range from addiction groups, diabetes, disfiguarement, mental health problems, pregnant mothers, stepfamilies, wheelchair users and many more. Log on and see.

HINI Vaccine

The swine flu vaccine vaccine is available to patients who have a chronic medical condition or patients that are pregnant. If you are in an at risk group please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

The surgery will be closed on the following public holidays:

Monday 31st May

Please ensure you order your repeat medication in plenty of time

BOOKING APPOINTMENTS

The Practice offers a range of appointments daily (Monday to Friday), each morning and afternoon with the exception of a Tuesday afternoon when the surgery is closed. You are requested to book an appointment to see the Doctor and appointments are normally 10 minutes per person. The majority of Doctor appointments are released each day at 8.45am for booking on the day, however some early morning appointments can be booked in advance if required. Appointments can be made in person or by phone so please phone early (lines open 8.45am) on the day of your choice, for an appointment and if you require a longer consultation please request a double appointment. If something is urgent please inform the receptionist who will try to fit you into an emergency slot. If you feel it is not necessary to see a Doctor and are only looking for advice you can request telephone advice and a Doctor will phone you back at a suitable time.

Bowel Screening

Patients who are registered with the Practice aged 50 - 74yrs will automatically be called for screening in the near future.

EMERGENCY CARE INFORMATION SCHEME

NHS Greater Glasgow has introduced an Emergency Care Information scheme to make GP out-of-hours patient care better and safer.

The scheme enables your GP practice to provide important information about your care to the NHS Greater Glasgow GP out-of-hours service.

This means that when you, or someone acting on your behalf, are referred to the GP out-of-hours service for health care advice or treatment, the nurse or doctor is able to look up your emergency care information from your GP record.

Your emergency care information cosists of:

1 Any known allergies
2 Current Medication

This allows the doctor or nurse to know which drugs you have been prescribed, even if you are too ill to remember.

If you do not wish this information to be available to the doctor or nurse looking after you out-of-hours, then please let your GP Practice know. Remember, though, that this may deny you an improvement in your medical care.

Are you a Carer? Let us know

A Carer is someone who looks after a partner, relative or friend who cannot manage without help because of illness frailty or disability. You may or may not live together. You can obtain an independent assessment as a carer, for more information contact 0141 353 6504

HOLIDAY VACCINATIONS

If you are intending to go abroad this year, it is best to check what vaccinations you may require. You should make a separate appointment for each family member with the Practice Nurse allowing at least four to six weeks before travel to discuss and arrange any vaccinations and travel advice.
A fee may be payable in some cases for particular vaccinations or where a certificate or note of vaccination is required.
Your local pharmacy can also assist you if you require anti malarial's.
Don't leave getting your vaccinations done to the last minute as we may not have appointments available at short notice and leaving them to the last minute can also affect how effective they are in protecting you!

Infectious Diseases

If you think that you have an infectious disease that can be passed onto other patients while attending the surgery e.g. Chickenpox, please inform the reception staff on your arrival.

DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION ACT

This Act has now come into effect and the Practice would welcome any comments or suggestions to improve our premises that would assist those patients with disabilities which would assist us in prioritising work.

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

This Act has now come into effect. Any person requiring information should make a request in writing to the Practice Manager. Requests must state the name and address of the applicant and describe what information is required.
It should be noted that practice information is also covered by the Data Protection Act.

Enhanced Services

We hold contracts with Greater Glasgow NHS Board for the following enhanced services:
Coronory Heart Disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. We also review patients with hypothyroidism, epilepy, M.S., hypertension and cancer as well as review patients who have mental health problems, attend our drug misuse clinic or are living in homeless accomodation.
The practice also holds contracts to provide childhood, flu and pneumococcal vaccination.

Baby Friendly

This practice promotes and encourages mothers to feel at ease when feeding their baby in the surgery. Patients can request a room if privacy is desired.

Parking

Parking can at times prove difficult as Argyle Street has parking restrictions between 8.00 am to 6.00pm although parking is permitted between 9.30am and 4.00pm in designated parking areas. There is parking in nearby side streets without restrictions although it can take time to find parking spaces particularly early morning. Please ensure time for parking if coming by car and check you do not park in a restricted zone.

Parentzone

Parentzone provides information that will help parents get involved in their children's learning. Parents can access a wide range of educational matters relevant to each stage of their children's education.

Head Lice

Head Lice are common in school children. They are spread by head to head contact. The scalp will be itchy and the lice can be seen moving about. the eggs of the lice (‘nits’) can be seen as small white pinheads near the root of the hair. Lice prefer clean heads so you should not be ashamed if you find them. The important things it treat the condition properly. Recommended treatments can be bought from the chemist or obtained on prescription. Make sure you follow the instructions properly and treat the whole family whether or not they seem to be affected. Tell your child's teacher so that the other children in the class can be screened and treated if necessary. If your child has long hair it may help to have it tied back.

Cervical Smear Test & Chlamydia Testing

Cancer of cervix can be prevented and all female patients between the age of 20 and 60 years of age are advised to have regular smear tests. These are important because they can detect early signs of the disease, which are easily treated. We operate a call and recall system to remind you about the test.

We are also offering Chlamydia testing for patients 25years and under. Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse.

Contraceptive Services

Contraceptive services including emergency contraception are provided during normal surgery hours. If you require Emergency Contraception, please inform the Receptionist and you will be seen the same day.
